Future of world peace lies in education

As the American Model United Nations (AMUN) conference in Chicago is this weekend, it is imperative to re-examine our energy towards peace in the world today. This conference will converge students from many Universities and Colleges in North America. Park University will be represented.

Despite our efforts to live in peace and harmony, we are still at a loss on how to make it lasting. War still surfaces despite our efforts to make peace. There must be something wrong with what we are doing at the moment.

“We have before us the glorious opportunities to inject a new dimension of love into the veins of our civilization,” said by Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is up to us, we can’t wait for a more powerful wise man to deliver peace. What is that thing that prevents us from reaching our goal to have peace?

In everything I do, the message of peace has to be there. But whatever we do to promote peace, it has to be seen as a means and not an end in itself.

Otherwise, we may become obsessed and forget our actual intent.  As I feel, it is best to get know the interests and temperaments of those youths. Real inspiration may happen by hearing the sound of a clap, by seeing a dry leaf fall, by seeing a rain drop evaporate before it falls on the ground, by hearing a bird sing, by watching a comedy or a  tragedy, or by having seen actual war and so on. Some still might be inspired by understanding the nature of life, its vicissitudes and its impermanence.

We need to solve disagreements with words and treaties not with weapons and murder. We need to rid this world of the things that cause us not to think clearly such as drugs and alcohol. Many people have said that this just can’t be done.

They say that this generation’s druggies won’t but by educating the youth, the next generation will have fewer people addicted to brain-damaging substances and the generation after that will have even fewer. We need to be empowered to take matters into our own hands and know that huge change comes when the masses take action.

To promote international discussion of youth’s common problems we must approach the UN and its related agencies on the topics of human rights and rights of the children. Let the youths make special request for providing advice, help with setting up courses and conferences on the world peace to assist in workshops on peace education for the youth.

International peace and security cannot be achieved without the promotion of mutual understanding, cooperation and goodwill among the youth of the world.Last but not least, the power of young people is a recognized force in the world today.

The youth are filled with tremendous energy and towering ambitions. We can be utilized constructively by any nation.
