ISIS will only be stopped with global unification effort

Whether we call it ISIS or ISIL, this group of terrorists is bringing too much animosity and turmoil to many nations around the world.

We have read and watched from the mainstream media about the heinous acts that have accrued as a result of these armed groups of terrorists. It is therefore of paramount importance to dig deep and spare some time to ask ourselves, just how did this group start? What is their motive? How long will the situation last and finally who will call the last shots to bring a halt to this situation?

ISIS is working to create an Islamic state. In fact, the situation is to create a ‘caliphate’ which is a state ruled by single political and religion leader according to Islamic law and Sharia. For them to achieve their mission, various atrocities such as collecting tax, running the education system, taking control of oil and running telecommunications has become the order of the day.

These are well financed and wealthy individuals who are working on ideological revolution in the places that they control. The damage is already in the public domain as we have witnessed through the beheading of U.S. journalists such as David Fowley and Steven Sotloff.

Driven by their motives to recruit more individuals into their group, ISIS has utilized their knowledge on modern communication and technology and taken advantage of social media to recruit and reach to ‘angry young Muslims’- who have ambitions and their future in an Islamic state.

ISIS has access to weapons and is capable of using small arms and heavy weapons to achieve their mandate. In the last couple of weeks, the ISIS burned to death a Jordanian pilot Lt. Muath al- Kasebeh.

Jordan retaliated by executing two prisoners which followed by Jordan air force carrying out more bombing raids against ISIS.
With the above killing of journalists, pilot and other innocent civilians, it is an indication of how the ISIS lacks humanity.

Just whom are they going to attack next? Are other nations taking adequate measures of ensuring that they protect their citizens against these terrorists who are after innocent lives?

Countries like Nigeria and Kenya have fallen into the hands of terrorists through the Boko haram and al-Shabaab respectively. The Boko haram in Nigeria abducted more than 200 school children. These girls were subjected to rape and forceful marriage and no longer attend school. In Kenya, the al-Shabaab attacked a shopping mall and butchered innocent people in broad daylight. Over 60 people were reportedly killed.

With ISIS at least, now it is time to act. The people want action and ISIS continues to mint millions of dollars from smuggling, extortion and kidnapping. This is totally unacceptable and if left to thrive it will soon get farther out of hand and the destruction will be enormous.

The final question will be: just who will call the final shots? Will nations and governments give up on ISIS or we will see tangible solutions to end terrorism? I think if nations like U.S. would merge efforts with other affected nations, ISIS can be defeated.

Unity is strong and thus if applied a world together could destroy ISIS and bring a sigh of relief to many innocent people around the world.
