Bible-based Revive group brings Christian students together

Park University is filled with groups of like-minded people – growing, sharing and encouraging one another throughout their college experiences.

These groups range from different sports interests, to academic achievements and career aspirations to everything else in between.

One of these organizations is Revive. Club President Steven Crooke, junior, said the club is a Christian organization.

“We invite anyone who is interested in learning about the Bible in a friendly environment,” he said.
Crooke is in his second year at Park University but he also brings with him two years of leadership experience in campus ministries from both the University of Kansas and Johnson Country Community College.

Crooke attends a sister church of Lenexa Baptist Church called Fellowship Kansas City.

If you are hesitant to join the group because of differing beliefs or Christian background, Crooke encourages attendance and stressed that the organization is biblically based.

“We wouldn’t want someone to come and feel out of place and think this is Methodist or this is Baptist,” said Crooke.

Their meetings typically start off with three or four songs being sung followed by a short game to make everyone feel comfortable.

After the game, a person from the club shares their personal testimony and a message is given by another person on their leadership team. The meetings close with another song.

People attending the meetings are always welcome to stay after and spend more time with one another.

“I think my favorite part is just the community of people we have,” said Hannah Bertram, sophomore.

“I would tell everyone to give it a try because it made such a difference and gave me such a good foundation for me and my college experience and the community it creates helps with that.”

Bertram is a co-leader of the service team in Revive as well as helping as an activity and outreach planner.

Crooke said he thinks being able to reflect on worship time is one of the most interesting aspects about being involved in the group.

“My favorite thing is when we see everyone getting along, you know people who might not normally be friends coming together and praising The Lord,” he said.

While the campus ministry is growing, they are always welcoming new individuals who are interested in exploring their faith and establishing new relationships.

Revive meetings are held at the McCoy Meetin’ house on Thursday nights at 8 p.m.
