Examining creativity important for growth

What is creativity? I was presented with this question in one of my courses during midterms. At first, it seemed like an easy answer even though I was stressed beyond comprehension which, I’m sure you noticed from my previous school-related articles.

Then, I thoroughly thought about this question. The funny thing is, I am a creative individual but I have never considered what creativity is. I’ve always assumed creativity is involved in the arts, whether that means painting or writing. But, that is not all.

Creativity exists in many forms. Though I never considered it, I instinctively acknowledged that notion when I sat down to write my paper.

We humans can be creative in many ways. We can be creative in the kitchen, adding ingredients to an already-known recipe. We can design a deck, adding our own features, and selecting the colors we think would go best with our house. We can even say that Edward Jenner was inventive, therefore creative, in his process of creating the vaccination that would turn the small-pox epidemic around.

Creativity exists everywhere that intelligent life lives.

Again, what is creativity? Is there even a definition that we can attach to it? It is fluid, ever-changing.

Creativity is different for each individual. What someone else finds creative, someone else might not.

In the end, it is personal thing. We own our own definitions. Yet, one thing is consistent – creativity involves the imagination and original ideas. It requires invention. That is the only base that we can all cling to. From there, everything blurs and alters.

Though I was worn down from midterms when I received the assignment, the paper opened my eyes to concepts I had not truly considered.

I am a creative individual and we are all creative individuals.  The trick is finding the creativity that lives inside of us.  Where is the creativity in you?  Sometimes it’s easier to find than others, you just have to look.
